You can get a trinckle user account by signing up. Signing up is totally for free and allows you to use many cool features of the trinckle web page.
Many 3D objects can be downloaded from the trinckle database. Just click on the green download button () of the respecting object.
You will be redirected to the download page where you can specify the file format of your download. Note that not every file format is capable of storing all types of information like colors or special material properties. If you specify a file format that cannot memorize all information, the object will be converted to fit into the file format. In such cases we always try to conserve as many properties of the original object as possible.
Also note that the use of the objects is only allowed for personal and non-commerical use.Back to top of the page
If you are logged in you can upload 3D objects into the trinckle database. To do so just click the upload link on the right side of the toolbar:
After providing an object file and clicking the "Upload and Proceed" button your object will be rendered the first time. This can take a short moment.
In the next step, the object will to be oriented in a correct way. Various 3D and CAD construction
programs use different space coordinate orientations for their files. Therefore you should
identify the correct front view of your object. Use the radio buttons to specify
one of the 24 shown views as being the front view.
The example shows a correct selection for the bunny:
On the upload settings screen, you can give additional information about your object. Later you can still change some of the given information, but other points cannot be changed after the model is placed in the database. These topics are labeled by a (p) as permanent data in the following list:
|Object Title (p):||A short term to name your object.|
|Object Abstract:||A short text that describes your object.|
|Description Text:||Here you can write a text that describes the object in more detail.|
You have to choose at least one category that describes your object. Select a higher
level category from the dropdown list or by clicking onto a lower level category.
For adding another category click on the "Add 2nd Category" text. In maximum three
categories are available.
If you think that none of the present categories fits to your object, you may put it into the category "uncategorizable". From time to time we will expand our category list in order to include such objects.
|Flags:||You show your object has certain properties by selecting some flags.|
|Allowing Download / Printout:||You are free to decide whether you want to allow others to download your object for private use and whether you want to give others the opportunity to order a 3D printout of your object via the trinckle print service.|
|Unit Length (p):||Most 3d file formats define their objects in dimensionless length units. In order to give a meaning to such units, i.e. to define the object's real-life extension, you need to define the physical length scale of the object.|
|Price for Design:||
If you registered as a designer you can choose a price you want to charge for your design when someone orders a printout of your object. This price is added to the production price, which varies with material and size. Trinckle keeps a certain percentage of the design price as a service fee and the rest is transferred to your paypal account periodically.
|Object Color (p):||
Maybe you don't want your object to appear in its original color (e.g.
if the file format doesn't support color information).
You can use the option "monochrome" then and the corresponding color table.
The complete object will then be painted in this color.
Please be aware that the original color information, if existent, is deleted in this case.
|Background Color (p):||
With this option you can choose the background color of the object presentation.
Use the color table to specify a color.
The background color is not saved in the object files.
You can make the object to be displayed with a special surface material appearance.
To do so, choose one from the predefined material list.
A chosen material will be applied to the complete object's surface material definition.
Please note that the material types "Plastic" and "Porcelain" will not influence the objects colors (i.e. the object will have the color as defined in the "Object Color" section) while the materials "Silver" and "Gold" change the color of the whole object to silver or gold.
After hitting the "Proceed" button the object is processed and inserted into
the database. This may again take a while, but you can keep on browsing during that time.
As soon as the processing is finished, your object will appear in the database.
We support a number of common 3d file formats. This list is permanently updated and expanded. Our converter technology allow you to upload and download your file in any of the implemented file formats. So you have the maximal choice to use the files in your 3d program.
One important point that you should take care of when working with different file formats is that not every file format is capable of storing every kind of information. For example, the STL file format cannot save any color information, due to historic reasons, but it is, on the other hand, a quite common format that is supported by many systems. The following list gives an overview of the different file formats we provide at the moment. Below that you find a table that gives an overview of the supported features.
STL - Surface Tesselation Language
The classic file format used by stereolithography systems. It is capable of describing triangulated surfaces ("meshes") only and does not store any surface material or color information. Nevertheless it is very common and supported by many 3d programs.
PLY - Polygon File Format
A very flexible file format invented by the Stanford University. In its basic form it is capable of describing triangulated surfaces. It is also possible to describe arbitrary complex surface material information with this format in general, like color, texture or roughness. Unfortunately, the high fexibility in storing these information and the lacking of a common standard has led to a situation, where many programs only support the basic geometry information. In our implementation the color of the triangles is additionally stored.
3DS - 3D Studio Format
The file format of the popular 3d software 3D Studio Max. The format supports triangulated surfaces, surface color, bitmap textures and more.

Sometimes you may wonder, what other people think about an object in the trinckle database. Then you can have a look at the rating bar, a small group of red and grey balls that is shown at every object. The number of red balls show the object's rating score that is the result of all ratings of all users.
If you are logged in, you can rate other objects by yourself. Just go to the object's main page (by clicking on the object's title) and move the mouse cursor over the rating bar graph. You can give points from one point (poor) to six points (fantastic). The final value is the average of all ratings by all users. New object always start with an intermediate rating score (three points).
The MyTrinckle page is the place where you can adjust all of your user account details. It provides tools to manage your account settings, to access your message box or get an overview of all of your objects ("My Objects"). You also find a list of your favourite objects there. For using the MyTrinckle page you need to be logged in.Back to top of the page
Flags are used to show some special properties of object inside the trinckle database. Some flags can be set by the user on uploading the object, others can only be set by the trinckle team.
|Realistic object:||The object is constructed to have realistic functionality. This means that parts which are moveable in the original real-life object are present and free in the constructed virtual model object as well and that a 3D printout of the model may possess the functionality of the object.|
|Printability not tested:||We have not tried to print this object until now. This is the default value for any new object in the database.|
|Object is printable:||This object has been 3D printed successfully at least once. This does not guarantee that the object can be printed in any size or material, but at least the objects has no surface defects and is suitable for printing in principle.|
|Object is not printable:||The object is not suitable for 3D printing, e.g. due to defects in the surface mesh.|
trinckle offers you the service to print a 3D model for you via modern rapid prototyping technology. To order a printing job, you need to get a customer account. Then you can either upload your own object or select one object out of our database. For the latter click on the 3D print order button() of the respective object.
To place an order, you only need to follow the different steps of the order procedure. At the end you can change your shipping address and choose the payment method. After your order has been submitted to us, we will send you a confirmation email. After the delivery period, you will then receive the finished printout per mail.
Please note that it is always possible that an object can not be printed due to technical reasons (too thin walls, failures in the mesh data, etc.). In this case we will inform you by email and the payment you already made will be refunded.
We apologize that at the moment we can offer this printout service only for customers within Germany.Back to top of the page
How can I find an object that was uploaded by me?
Why can't I find my object in the database after upload?
Directly after the upload procedure is complete, we start to render the preview movie of your object. This takes a short time, usually between some seconds and a few minutes. After this is done, the object will be available in the database.
