Import and export settings

Importing a file

To bring an existing part into an app:

  1. Open the app from the library.
  2. Click Import or the upload icon in the top bar.
  3. Select your file (Supported formats: STL/3MF/STEP)
  4. The part will upload and appear in the 3D viewport. Depending on the app, you may be prompted to align or orient it before proceeding.

Common import issues

  • File won't upload – check that the format is supported
  • Part looks wrong after import – this is usually because of a unit mismatch. Check whether your file was exported in metric (millimeters) or imperial (inches) and confirm the setting matches what the app expects.
  • Geometry errors – if the imported file has mesh errors, the app may flag them. Re-export the file from your CAD tool with mesh repair enabled, or use a tool like Meshmixer to fix it first.

Exporting a file

When your design is ready:

  1. Click Download in the top bar.
  2. Choose your preferred format: STL or 3MF.
  3. The file downloads to your device.

Transferring files between apps

Some apps let you send your design directly to another app without exporting it first. For example, you can send a mesh from Photo-to-Outline straight into Shadow Boards. When available, this option appears during the export step of the guided workflow.
